Shopping for a Rotary Evaporator? Here’s what to watch out for.

Rotary evaporators are systems made up of key components (glass surface area, vacuum pump, vacuum control, chiller) that can make or break overall system performance and rates of evaporation and recovery.

All rotary evaporators are not created equal. Many resellers or low-cost importers will include underperforming chillers, loose or non-existent vacuum control, thin glass and lesser vacuum pumps that may lower the initial price tag, but end up costing the customer plenty in on-going maintenance, inefficient evaporation times and lost man hours tuning the systems.

Vacuum control is a key component for efficient rotary evaporation. Vacuum control allows for “walk away” distillation, rather than having a person dedicated to controlling vacuum. When vacuum levels are manually controlled but not consistently monitored, the vacuum pump can be quickly destroyed and solvent recovery is much less efficient. The GREEN Package eliminates that risk.

Rotary evaporators also have motors that spin the flasks. Less expensive motors can run hot and overheat.  When this happens, processing must stop until the motor cools down. Thin, unbalanced glass can easily break, contributing to consumables costs.

If bath temperature overshoots by 5°C and if your water bath runs dry, heating will be switched off automatically by two independent safety circuits. Or, individually pre-program a maximum temperature at which the bath powers off. In case of an overshoot of any parameter setting, a warning will appear on the operating panel.

In case of a power failure, the motor lift models will remove the flask from the heating bath preventing safety hazards and potential thermal damage to your product.

A separate heat on/off switch prevents unintentional heat-up. The button is illuminated for visual control.

To protect from splashes, burns and scalding, the heating bath is double-wall constructed and  features an integrated pour spout to remove bath fluid safely.

The operating panel is located near the base so as to keep your hands out of the dangerous zone of rotating flasks, steam and splashing bath fluids.

All heating baths feature non-slip handles with safety grip to protect you from scalding bath liquids and allow for easy installation/removal of the bath.
